Broadcast Journalism

Broadcast journalism is something I would consider a personal weakness; our staff has made great strides this year, putting together many individual videos as well as video series for our social media. We've had opinion shows, election coverage, sports coverage, news updates, and more. However, I haven't participated in many of these and feel that video-making and broadcast journalism in general are things I can definitely work on in the future. Here are several videos that I have taken part in.

Mary Beth Tinker Interview

During our visit to Washington, D.C. in November 2019 for the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention, I scored an interview with legendary students' rights activist Mary Beth Tinker.

Our multimedia editor Nolen Stevens filmed while I thought of some questions on the fly and picked Tinker's brain about the state of student use of the First Amendment. I wish we did more to promote this video because I felt it was a great interview and not many people viewed it on YouTube.

Omega's Unsolicited Opinions Episode 2 - Political Signs

This is a video I featured in for a fun opinion series we do as a staff called "Omega's Unsolicited Opinions." I had two small parts in this video rating different signs and I also helped brainstorm formats for the video and rating systems before we filmed.

It got a great reception (around 670 views) on our social media, but I wish we posted it on YouTube as well. I wish we researched more about design components so we could've talked about more than just critiques of color, but overall I think it turned out well.

October OmegaTV Program

This is one of eight clips that I filmed for a new OmegaTV show that we planned out for October. I wrote the script for the EIC segments, which functioned as transitions between various clips (news, sports, opinions, etc.), and filmed my segments at my house.

The TV show as one big video fell through due to videos being finished at different times, but I hope to help put together some sort of longer TV segment before the end of the year, specifically for our retiring principal or football season in the spring.
