Staff Editorial: Black History Month renews our fight to prove that racism is not political

This is a story that brings forth some of the best ideas and perspectives that our staff discussed at the beginning of February when considering how best to cover Black History Month. We made plans to write stories about Black students and teachers at our school and wanted to address some of our main ideas before posting any articles. I consulted with the Black Student Union sponsor for revisions before publishing and conducted research of why and how Black History Month has come to be celebrated.

Why Trump losing reelection is a huge step for the protection and upholding of truth

This story is my most controversial one and it received expected backlash from the conservative side of our student body. I didn't expect everyone to agree, but I expected more people to digest the message (which is not based on ideology) before they criticized our publication for being biased. This story taught me about distinguishing between addressing criticism of our publication and staying firm to our principles in the midst of a heated but unjustified aspersion.

Cell phones are destroying our generation

This piece was one I felt passionate about and represents the development and improvement of my voice in opinion writing. I related it well to the audience by taking the perspective of someone belonging to Gen Z and addressed conflicting perspectives, but it’s definitely a bit wordy and doesn't have sources hyperlinked. To create this story, I had to do a lot of research and gain a comprehensive understanding of the way that cell phones affect mental health.
